Gopher Soccer
The Gophers started off their Big Ten schedule with a solid win over Michigan on Friday night. This was a fun game - the U started down 1-0 but came back strong to put 2 away and start an undefeated Big Ten schedule. Today they face Michigan State.

Henna
Months ago, Andrea got a bunch of henna art on her arms and legs. I took photos and kept promising to put them up, but never made good until today.

Best 0-0 Tie Ever
This was an incredible match - Luther came up from Iowa for a double header - the Macalester women played quite well - those photos to follow. The men's team photos are up.

The Great STOlaf Match
The Macalester men have played some close matches this year. They defeated St. Olaf 2-0 but the game could have been 0-0, 2-0, or 4-0. It was damn exciting and the photos are hot.

Men Soccer Photos
The Macalester men soundly defeated the College of St. Scholastica and, as usual, I was there with my camera. The photo gallery is up.

Men JV Soccer Photos
I have been meaning to get photos up here. The fall has been great for shooting thus far. However, I never seem to get the job done. Here is a start. I have shot two Mac JV games - these photos are from both the Gustavus game and Macalester JV soccer against the Minnesota Gophers club team. I'm trying to shoot as much soccer as possible - I want to position myself as the best damn soccer photographer around.

You saw it on the radio...
So I published this report on Burlington's fiber system and our communications person notified John Gordon at Future Tense with American Public Media so we set up an interview. On Monday, I was feeling icky because of nasty allergies but I came in, did the interview, and went home.
This morning, I had a meeting, so I missed the broadcast on MPR, but he ran clips from our interview. So yeah, I was on Future Tense with John Gordon.
You can listen to the program there. Or just assume that I was awesome.
AAA Blows
I know what you are thinking - I have already ragged on AAA because of their crummy service when you really need (e.g. stuck in the worst meth country of Washington state at 1:00 am).
This is different. I cannot even imagine how many people there are who pay AAA to feel secure (hoping they won't get some spiteful customer service rep when they desperately need help) and they do not realize that AAA takes some of that money and lobbies to keep car engines inefficient, to prevent policies that deal with climate change, and against transit options!
I listened to this podcast from renewable energy access and learned about an alternative. You should check it out.
Americans who belong to automobile clubs like AAA may be surprised to know that their membership fees don't always go toward the services advertised. Instead, many auto clubs use some of that money to lobby against stricter emissions standards, higher fuel economy standards and, in some cases, bicycle lanes. Mitch Rofsky, President of the Better World Club, joins us to talk about how his company is competing with other auto clubs through a mix of activism and greener alternative services.
The Better World Club even will help you if you are on a bike and you flat somewhere - this could be great on long rides if you have exceptionally bad luck (because we all carry patches and at least one extra tube, right?).
Report out
My case study report on a fiber to the home network is now available online - if you are interested in what I am doing in my new job and what I am writing you can check it out here. It weighs in a 6 pages and has fun graphics.
Mac Football Pics
Macalester Football has come out to an incredible start this year - steamrolling two opponents in the their first two games - as many victories as they used to hope for per season. I've got photos up from their first game when they came from behind to beat Beloit - for the first time in 50 years!
